About Motusol®
Motusol® is an anti-inflammatory gel range that provides targeted, effective pain relief for sprains and strains.

How does Motusol® work
Motusol® gels contain Diclofenac a powerful non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Its triple-effect formula works in three ways to provide effective pain relief.
1. Targets Pain directly at the source
Unlike tablets that have to be absorbed via the stomach, Motusol® gels are applied directly to the skin, penetrating the underlying tissues to the inflamed, injured area providing effective pain relief, right where you need it.
2. Reduces inflammation
Diclofenac works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, reducing inflammatory-related pain and swelling.
3. Helps restores movement
By reducing the inflammation, Motusol® gels help speed up recovery time, and restore movement in the affected area.
Strains and Sprains
Strains and sprains are common soft tissue injuries to the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Strains relate to muscle injury, whereas sprains are injuries to the ligaments that link bones and maintain our joints in place.
Muscle Pain
When a muscle is overstretched or torn it can be very painful.
Common reasons strains occur include: exercise, overuse or repetitive movement, sudden twisting or fall. You can strain a muscle anywhere in your body, some common areas affected: Lower back, hamstrings, calf, chest and abdominals.
Symptoms of muscle strains include: Pain, tender to touch, swelling, bruising, weakness and loss of movement.
Joint Pain
Ligaments stabilise and support your joints so when one is stretched or torn, the pain can be extreme.
Common reasons sprains occur include: a fall, twisting, and experiencing trauma to the joint. The areas of the body that are most vulnerable to sprains are the ankles, knees, and wrists.
Symptoms of a sprained joint include: Pain, swelling, bruising, and inability to move the joint and unable to weight-bear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Diclofenac is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). When the body experiences pain or trauma, it works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain when applying the gel directly to the source of pain.
The Motusol® range contains the powerful anti-inflammatory drug Diclofenac. It works by preventing the production of hormones which are responsible for causing inflammation and pain at the site of injury or trauma. When applied directly to the skin over the affected area, the diclofenac is absorbed through the skin and makes its way through the underlying tissues to the inflamed area. By reducing the hormones in this area, diclofenac reduces inflammation, pain and swelling.
Both gels contain the same active ingredient diclofenac.
Motusol® contains 1.16% w/w diclofenac diethylamine which can be applied 3- 4 times daily. Motusol® Max is our Maximum strength formulation, contains 2.32% w/w diclofenac diethylamine and needs to be applied twice daily (morning and evening) for all day pain relief.
Both gels can be used to treat mild to moderate muscle and joint pain caused by acute strains, sprains or bruising caused by blunt trauma.
Motusol® and Motusol® Max are for cutaneous use. Apply the gel to the affected parts of the body thinly and rub into skin. Unless the hands are the site being treated, wash your hands after rubbing the gel.
Adults and Adolescents (14 years and over) should follow the below application guidance. The product is not suitable for those under the age of 14.
Motusol® – depending on the size of the affected site to be treated, 1 – 4g (cherry-walnut sized amount), of gel should be applied 3-4 times daily. The maximum daily dose of Motusol® is 16g.
Motusol® Max -can be applied 2 times a day (preferably morning and evening) applying 1-4g of gel depending on the site of the affected site to be treated. The maximum daily dose of Motusol® Max is 8g.

When Motusol® and Motusol® Max are applied directly to the skin, there have been no known interactions between the diclofenac gel and oral medicines.
